Afro American Almanac
"The site of African-American Fact, Folk Tales, and Commentary" IMHO: A useful site. I found them during the "Amistad" discussion on Djembe-L, trying to find out info concerning slave trade and related information. There are also nice folk tales from Africa, electronic books and ..

African Traditional Religion
IMHO: I didn't know to much about African religions. This page answered a few of my questions and raised a couple of new ones. The topics covered range from "role of woman in african trad. religion" through "reincarnation" , "the place of the ancestors" to "crime in African Traditional religion" to name a few. May be the topic is a bit far out for drummers, but for those serious interested not only in "nice african rhythms" a must.
AfroCaribbean Music (9/98)
                       French
Extensive discography of African and Caribbean (French West Indies, Haiti) music. Sadly lacking in Cuban, but that may change!  Good tips on "Black Paris" - clubs, restaurants, bookstores, etc.

ADWA.jpg (11303 bytes)  Wood is one of the most important materials Akan use in their arts to express their thoughts. Wood is used to carve various items for household use as well as for ceremonial uses. Among the household items that are carved from wood include adwa (stool), akuaba (doll), dua afe (comb), poma (staff) to be used by okyeame (spokesperson or linguist) for either the abusua (family) or ohene (King).

Encyclopaedia Africana (5/99)
has a gif a kule Akan symbol on a scroll, this site is a pan-african biography project that is pretty ambitious... it includes Ras Tafari and Dr. W. E. B. DuBois (is Dr. David Graham Du Bois listed as an advisor a decendant?)!
"The Ethnologue"
"Online version of the book which includes information about 6700 languages including derivation, number of speakers, and geographic distribution of languages."
IMHO: This is a page to find out, what languages are spoken in e.g. in Guinea, or how many people speak Bamara language and where do they live. You learn, that 30%, i.e. 2000, of the living languages are spoken in Africa, compared to only 225 spoken languages in Europe, namely 3%.
