Real Africa
(02/03)
- Welcome! Here we hope to explain as much as
possible about our holidays on 'the smiling coast' of West Africa. We offer
you an alternative to the usual hotel-based package holidays. We have strong
'eco-tourism' principles and do our best to give you an experience of the
reality of life in The Gambia, as it is lived by the local people. Here life
is lived within the extended family, each group we bring here becomes a mirror
of that. In The Gambia a family's plot of land is called 'kunda' or
'compound'. Our neighbours the Ceessay family, live in the Ceesay Kunda or
Ceesay compound. Our place is called the Drum Doctor compound. 'Drum Doctors'
is the name, we have used since 1993 for our drum sales and workshops. 'Real
Africa' is our new business name for our holidays, which are not necessarily
drum related, except that drums are very much a part of real life in Africa,
as is wildlife and nature.
