Class Description:    beginning, intermediate-advanced.  For anyone
just  beginning to learn samba to more advanced dancers interested in
performing.  Conceicao teaches a wide variety of samba from the old
traditional samba of the Kabolo Indians, to the traditional afoxe style
of bahia, to the modern Carnival style dances being performed in Brazil
today.  She returns to Brazil at least twice a year to keep current on
the latest dance steps and music, but she is dedicated to preserving and
carrying on the traditional old-style sambas.  These classes are lively,
friendly, fast. and the music is always HOT!

Time for an aerobic challenge? Cristina will get you moving while introducing the basics of Afro-Brazilian Dance with visualization and warm-up exercises, creative movement, rhythm, and music. She will provide a rigorous cardiovascular workout and students will explore the arts and tradition of Brazilian beats and have a lot of fun in the process. Afro-Brazilian Dance is a great body builder. It improves flexibility, enhances strength, sharpens the mind-muscle link and mental focus. Every single Afro-Dance movement involves the whole body! Wear dance or exercise attire; jazz shoes or ballet shoes are recommended. Instructor: Cristina Ribeiro holds Rio de Janeiro’s Best Choreographer and Best Dance Awards. Her enthusiasm for dance is contagious. Pre-register before 6/12.

STYLE OF DANCE: Rio-Style Samba
Description of Dance Classes: Ana Laidley's Samba classes cover the traditional as well as popular Samba Dances from Rio de Janeiro. Ana's classes not only will help people train their body but also it will help them to develop their mind and soul. The focus of her methodology is Self-expression and Stress Relieve through the Samba Beat.

Ana's classes duration is 1 hour and 30 minutes. Ana starts her class with basic samba steps and develop these steps in to a choreography. She incorporates the
traditional and modern samba styles. Such as Samba de roda, Samba de Malandro, Samba de Mulata, Samba reggae and the most popular dances in Brasil.  The climax of Ana's class is the Circle, where the students have the chance to dance with Ana
and incorporate the learned steps. Ana takes her students to parade at the most traditional Samba school from Rio de Janeiro:
G.R.E.S. Estação Primeira de Mangueira.

Resumé of teacher: Ana is natural from Rio de Janeiro.
She has participated in the original and world famous Carnaval Parade in
Rio for over 20 years with the top samba's schools. She taught samba classes at University of Hawaii, in Los Angeles, in the Bay Area  and she is currently  teaching at the Brazilian Cultural Center of New England  in Cambridge. She is  developing her own methodology of teaching Brazilian dance. Implementing techniques adapted from Power Yoga and breathing exercises.
She is taking her master degree in Counseling at Boston University.
