Fode's class is open to all levels of drummers from beginners to advanced. He
incorporates the dun dun drum into his classes so that students get a full
feel for the sound of playing with a full ensemble. Students should have own

Fode Bangoura is a Master Guinea DjembeFola. He is a lead musician for Les
Mervielles De Guinea and the musical director of the musicians of Nankama
International Dance And Drum Co. He currently performs, drums, and teaches

Bio-  Fode Sissoko was born in Kolda, Senegal into one of the most eminent musical families of West Africa. At age 5, he was performing as
as "Griot" and playing the kora. By 8, he began playing djembe and dun-dun drums. An acknowledged master of drum and kora, Fode toured in Africa, Europe and America with Baba Olatunji, Mory Kante, and Salif Keita as well as with his own group Fakoli.

Steve Deats specializes in teaching Afro-Caribbean hand drumming techniques. While his greatest expertise and dedication is to Haitian music, he also applies these techniques in teaching jazz, rock and other forms of drumming.  Individual lessons and classes are available for all ages and skill levels for all Afro-Carribean instruments from the conga to the cow-bell.

In addition to teaching, he co-directs and performs with La Troupe Makandal, a Haitian dance and drum ensemble led by Frisner Augustin, as well as his own
company Ti Ayiti Drum and Dance Troupe. He studied latin drumming with Frank Malabe and Eddie Bobe at the Rhythm
Section Lab back in the early 80s before spending many years studying Haitian drumming with Frisner Augustin. He has performed at Yale, Columbia, the UN, Lincoln Center, The Aaron Davis Hall, Summer Stage in Central Park, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Festival International de Louisiane, and many other venues. Recordings of his drumming include Erzulie (World Music Institute), Rhythms of Rapture (Smithsonian), the soundtrack for Beloved (Sony Music Soundtrax).
