Moussa Traoré was born and raised in Mali, West Africa. He has been playing the jembe for the past twenty-five years. At the age of 17, Moussa began achieving great recognition throughout Mali as a gifted musician in the theater, in traditional ceremonies as well as in the Malian pop music scene. He has played with several companies, including the National Ballet of Mali, and until his recent move to the United States, Moussa was the director and lead jembefola of Troupe Komi Djossé in Bamako, Mali. Since 1991, Moussa has played jembe on the recordings of more Malian pop artists than any other drummer in Mali. In addition to his extensive performance and recording career, Moussa has established himself as an internationally respected teacher of traditional Mande music. Moussa currently performs and teaches regularly in Boston, MA. |
